From Import to Production: Volkswagen Launches Car Assembly in Tashkent
As part of the official visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Uzbekistan, a semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly plant for Volkswagen vehicles was launched in Tashkent.
The project is being implemented in partnership with Alyans Auto and will mark an important milestone in the development of the country's automotive industry. Looking ahead, there are plans to transition to full-cycle manufacturing and organize exports to the CIS, Central Asian, and Caucasus countries.
According to Uzavtosanoat, the first stage involves the production of several Volkswagen models simultaneously for the domestic and regional markets.
The launch of the new production facility confirms the growing interest of global automotive brands in Uzbekistan and strengthens the country's status as one of the key automotive hubs in Central Asia.
